Here's my perspective on consequences, keeping in mind that most Americans don't care that much about politics, and off year elections have a higher turnout from 'activists'.
It looks like generally Democrats will lose at least some Blue Dogs in the House and DINOs in the Senate, in proportion to the general membership. I would think that will tend to shift the balance of power in favor of the Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party. Liberals, progressives. We've got to push to get as many as we can in there.
If Democrats hold the House, it won't be by much. The remaining Blue Dogs will be under even greater pressure to conform to the will of the majority of their peers. Strong leadership will be needed to maintain discipline, which is always difficult with the wide variations of opinions in the Party.
The same dynamic of pressure on DINOs will not be as effective in the Senate; as we have seen Senators tend to be much harder to 'budge'. If Reid holds on, and stays as leader, we're going to see the same dynamics in place.
Results of the election, as well as changes in leadership positions in Congress will be key developments we should all be watching for.
